1) All of the questions on this quiz deal with a specific Civil War battle. You will have a hard time answering them if you do not know which battle we are talking about. Names such as the Tapp Farm, the Germanna Road, the Plank Road, and the Turnpike; Phrases such as "Lee to the Rear"; and Generals such as Getty, Ewell, Hill, and Hancock, apply to this battle. What battle is it?

2) During a flanking attack, he said that Longstreet's Brigades rolled up Birney's line "like a wet blanket." Who said that?

3) At one point in the battle a Confederate General found his approximately 6,700 men facing a Union onslaught of nearly 30,000 men. Who was this Confederate General?

4) The Union Army effectively had two commanders during this battle. Who were they?

5) Prior to the battle, the Union Army moved into the area by crossing at two fords on the Rapidan River. What were the names of the two fords?

6) Two separate battles have overlapping battlefields in this area. The first battle occurred in April/May, 1863 and the other, which we are addressing in this quiz, was fought in May, 1864. From the Confederate point of view, there was another more significant similarity or coincidence involving the two battles. Name the 1863 battle and the significant coincidence involving the two.

7) Name the two parallel roads that the Confederate army used to come to this battle? (Enter names, not route numbers)

8) What state's troops became famous for demanding that Lee go to the rear during their charge near the Tapp Farm?

9) When Lee committed his army to attack the Union, Ewell's Second Corps and Hill's Third Corps were bivouaced around the town of Orange Court House. Longstreet's First Corps was farther away and, as a result, arrived later to the battlefield. Where was Longstreet's First Corps when Lee placed the Confederate army on the move?

10) The location of the battle was not where the Union General wanted it, but it was exactly where the Confederate General wanted it. Why?
