  3rd Corpl. John Taliaferro Evans* b. Abt. 1835 Enlisted on April 29, 1861 at Buffalo Springs, Va as a Private at the age of 25 years old. On May 29, 1861 he mustered into Co. I, 19th Va Infantry. On June 1, 1862 Wounded at Seven Pines, Va. In Aug 1862 returned. On Sept 1, 1863 he was promoted to 3rd Corpl. On Oct 10, 1864 present through last roll.

  Pvt. Philander Hersey Fitzgerald* b. on Feb 13, 1844 in Nelson Co, VA. Enlisted on Feb 17, 1863 at Massie Mill, Nelson Co, VA into Captain Rives' Virginia Light Artillery. Present on all subsequent musters. On Oct 6, 1925 he died in Afton, Nelson Co, VA. Buried in Lebanon Cemetery, Greenwood, Albemarle Co, VA.

  Pvt. John H. Fountain* Enlisted on Aug 21, 1861 as a Private into Co. I, 3rd Ga Infantry On July 2, 1863 POW at Gettysburg, PA. On Oct 28, 1863 transferred from Point Lookout, MD to Hammond Gnl Hospl, Point Lookout, MD. On Dec 2, 1863 He died of chronic diarrhoea.

  Pvt. George Hudson Gilmer b. on Jul 31, 1836 in Charlottesville, Albemarle Co, VA. Enlisted on Jun 15, 1861 as a Private into 1st Co. Rockbridge VA 1st Light Artillery. In 1862 he was discharged for promotion. Only record W & L Alumni Record. He was promoted to Chaplain. Served until end of the Civil War.

  Pvt. George Walker Gilmer* b. on Jul 10, 1845 in Amherst Co, VA. 17 years old. Enlisted on Jun 16, 1863 at Snicker's Gap, VA as a Private into Co. C, 2nd VA Cavalry. On Jun 30, 1863 wounded in his right shoulder by a shell and horse killed in Westminister, MD. On Jul 3, 1863 in his right temple (resulting in loss of right eye) was caused by a miniball and POW in Gettysburg, PA (it was extracted by Dr. Burerette of Washington, DC, in the winter of 1897 more than thirty four years after the wound was rec'd). On Jul 15, 1863 wounds caused him to be left behind & he fell into the hands of the enemy and confined at David's Island, NY. On Jul 30, 1863 He was exchanged in the fall, though unable to sit up in his bed. On Feb 15, 1864 In hospital in Richmond, VA. On May 8, 1864 Served as a courier for Gen Wickham at Spotsylvania Court House, VA. On May 11, 1864 Served as a courier for Gen Wickham at Yellow Tavern, VA. On Jul 16, 1864 Bullet from old wound affected his brain hospitalized at Richmond, VA. On Jul 20, 1864 Hospitalized in Charlottesville, VA. On Aug 10, 1864 Returned. On Oct 31, 1864 Hospitalized in Richmond, VA. On Dec 19, 1864 transferred into Veteran Reserve Corps. On Dec 25, 1864 Hospitalized in Charlottesville, VA. On Dec 31, 1864 Assigned to Invalid Corps in Charlottesville, VA. Late in the summer, however, the yet unhealed wound in his eye, was so seriously affected by the heat & excitement that he was honorably discharged as unfit for service. On Apr 15, 1865 he mustered into 43rd VA Battn Cavalry (Joined Mosby) and was with him till Gen. Lee surrendered. On May 17, 1865 Oath Allegiance in Charlottesville, VA.

( F )   Pvt. Robert A. Hillman b. 1839 Enlisted on July 2, 1861 in at Scott County, VA into Co. E, 48th Va Infantry at the age of 22 years old. On Apr 20, 1862 AWOL.

( F )   Pvt. William G. Hillman b. 1841 Enlisted on July 2, 1861 in at Scott County, VA into Co. E, 48th Va Infantry at the age of 20 years old. On Jul 13, 1861 AWOL. On Apr 30, 1862 Returned.

  Capt. Charles M. C. Jones* b. in 1837 Enlisted on March 18, 1861 as a Ensign into Co. E, 1st Ga Infantry at the age of 24 years old. On July 13, 1861 POW at Cheat River Bridge, WV. On July 16, 1861 Paroled at Beverly, WV. On March 4, 1862 He was promoted to Capt, he was discharged for promotion and enlisted into Co. H, 49th Ga Infantry. On July 3, 1863 He was killed at Gettysburg, PA.

  Pvt Robert Brooke Jones* b. in 1829 Enlisted on May 1, 1861 at Gloucester CH into the Chesapeake Cavalry Co. A, 5th Va Cavalry. On Feb 15, 1862 Re-enlisted. On Feb 28, 1862 On rolls. On Nov 15, 1863 On rolls through Apr 1864. On May 11, 1864 WIA at yellow Tavern. On May 13, 1864 hospitalized for wounds at Richmond, VA. On June 3, 1864 Died of his wounds. Buried at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Va.

  Pvt. Nelson A. Maddox b. in 1843 in Amherst Co., Va. Captain Rives' Virginia Light Artillery.

  Pvt. Notley Warren Maddox b. in 1828 Captain Rives' Virginia Light Artillery. He also severd in Stark's Battn Arty C S A. In 1915 he died.

  Pvt. Edward Carrington Marshall b. on March 26, 1835 Enlisted on April 17, 1861 in Alexandria, Va into Fauquier Va Light Artillery at the age of 23 years old. On April 19, 1863 POW at Suffolk, Va. On April 21, 1863 Paroled at Fort Monroe, Va. On May 18, 1863 Detailed as Ordnance Sergt. On Feb 15, 1865 Detailed as Ordnance Sergt. On April 25, 1865 Paroled at Winchester, Va. He was described as 5' 10.0", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair. On July 28, 1912 he died. Buried in Leeds Episcopal Cemetery near Markham, Va.

  Colonel. James Keith Marshall* b. on April 25, 1843 in Audley, Va. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1860. Enlisted on April 29, 1861 at Chowan County, NC into Co. M, 1st NC Infantry. On May 25, 1861 promoted to Capt. On Nov 12, 1861 he was Mustered Out of service with unit a 6-mo regt. On April 23, 1862 promoted to Colonel as of Co. S, 52nd Inf Regmt and he was commissioned into Field & Staff NC 52nd Infantry. Commanded Brig. Genl. J. J. Pettigrew at Gettysburg. On July 3, 1863 he shot in the forehead and expired immediately in Pickett's Charge "right up at the Stonewall" at Gettysburg, Pa.

  Corporal. Jaquelin Ambler Marshall* b. on April 05, 1844 in Audley, Va. Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1849. Enlisted on Nov 1, 1861 at Markham, Va as a Corporal into Fauquier Va Light Artillery at the age of 21 years old. On April 19, 1863 POW at Suffolk, Va. On April 21, 1863 Paroled at Fort Monroe, Va. On Feb 15, 1865 Promoted to Sergt. On June 18, 1864 he was Shot through left lung at Petersburg, Va. On Feb 15, 1865 Absent, wounded. On April 22, 1865 Paroled at Winchester, Va. He was described as 5' 9.0", light complexion, blue eyes, light hair. On Nov 27, 1917 he died. Buried in Leeds Episcopal Cemetery near Markham, Va.

  Sergt. Edward Carrington Mayo b. on May 23, 1831 Enlisted on May 10, 1861 in Richmond, Va into Co. F, 21st Va Infantry. On April 5, 1861 Promoted to Sergt. On Dec 15, 1861 He Resigned. In 1883 he died.

  Pvt. Joseph Howard Mayo b. on August 13, 1832 Enlisted on April 23, 1861 in Cumberland County, Va into Co. E, 18th Va Infantry at the age of 27 years old. On Aug 1, 1861 Absent sick. On Dec 6, 1862 He was discharged for , furnished substitute for J Riley.

  Pvt. George Booker Mayo b. on November 28, 1844 Enlisted on Feb 19, 1862 in Richmond, Va into Co. G, 3rd Va Cavalry. On May 9, 1864 Wounded at Mitchell's Shop, Va. On April 15, 1865 Paroled at Farmville, Va. On June 05, 1873 he died.

  Pvt. Nicholas Francis Meriwether b. on February 04, 1837 Goldthwaite's Batt'y. Alabama L. Art'y.

  Pvt. William Benjamin Gilmer Meriwether b. on January 10, 1843 Co. I, 2nd Alabama Cavalry. On December 02, 1867 he died.

  Pvt. James Bradley Meriwether b. on April 16, 1839 Goldthwaite's Batt'y. Alabama L. Art'y. " He was a member of "Semples Battery". This artillary unit was organized a Montgomery in March 1862. The officers and men were nearly all from Montgomery County. Ordered to Mobile it soon joined the army in Tennessee. It fought at Ringgold Gap, Resaca and retreated to Atlanta. It fought at Jonesboro, Franklin and Nashville. Ordered to North Carolina they reached Augusta where they surrendered". On April 17, 1914 he died in Montgomery Co., AL. Buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Montgomery Co, AL.

  Pvt. Byrd Fitzpatrick Meriwether b. on April 16, 1839 Enlisted in Feb 1862 at Montgomery Co, Al into Co. A, 1st Battalion Hilliard's Legion AL. Re-enlisted into Co. F, 60th Alabama Infantry. He was wounded at Chickamaunga. On November 28, 1926 he died in Montgomery Co., AL.

  Sergeant. Benjamin Baldwin Meriwether b. on November 14, 1845 Co. F, 3rd Alabama Infantry the members known as sharpshooters. On May 03, 1915 he died in Bullock Co., AL.
