  MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHERS

  Pvt. Daniel Goode Campbell b. November 02, 1845 Enlisted on June 3, 1861 at Charlottesville into the Amherst Rifle Grays Co. I, 19th Va Infantry at the age of 15 years old. He was wounded at the Battle of Gaines' Mill on June 27,1862.

( F )   Pvt. Charles Harvey Harler b. 1831 Enlisted on April 5, 1861 at Cabell County, Va into the Border Rangers Co. E, 8th Va Cavalry. Capt. Logan Co., WV On April 13, 1863 He was a POW and was taken to Charleston, then to Morgantown, then on to Camp Chase, Oh. On May 13, 1863 Exchanged at City Point, Va. After the war He was a Farmer.

( F )   Pvt. John N. Hutchinson b. 1833 in Va. Enlisted on May 7, 1862 at Camp Success into the Border Rangers Co. C, 36th Va Inf at the age of 25 years old. On May 9, 1864 Wounded at Cloyd's Mountain, Va. On May 10, 1865 Paroled.

  Pvt. John M. Camden b. in May 1832 in Nelson Co, VA. Enlisted on Mar 9, 1861 at Massies Mill, Nelson Co, VA into Lamkin's' Amherst-Nelson Light Artillery. On June 30, 1863 detailed as a teamster (noted on muster). On Oct 2, 1863 he was admitted to General Hospl 9, Richmond, VA and than tranferred to Chimborazo Hospl 4, Richmond, VA "fever Int test". On Oct 15, 1863 returned. On Nov 19, 1863-Aug 31, 1864 detailed as teamster to Ordnance. On Dec 31, 1864 Clothing recpt. In Apr 1902 he died in VA. Buried in May Cemetery, Nelson Co, VA.

  Pvt. Martin Van Burean Campbell b.October 22, 1842 Enlisted on June 10, 1861 at Culpeper Courthouse Va into the Nelson Grays Co. G,19th Va Infantry at the age of 19 years old. He was assigned as a teamster. Then he was a courier for General George Pickett from October 1862 to December 1864.

  Pvt. Thomas J. Campbell b. 1837 Enlisted on May 1, 1861 at Massie Mill into the Nelson Grays Co. G, 19th Va Infantry at the age of 25 years old. On Oct 1861 to Feb 1862 he was assigned as a teamster. On March 3, 1863 listed as having died at Petersburg hospital of Pneumonia.

  Pvt. Robert B. Coleman b. 1841 Enlisted on Apr 23, 1861 at Amherst Co, Va into the Co. I, 49th Va Infantry. On July 21, 1861 WIA severely at Manassas, Va. Wounded in camp through Aug 31, 1861. In Oct 1861 through Feb 1862 sent home to recuperate. On April 11, 1862 deserted for Yorktown, Va.

  Pvt. Jesse A. Coleman b. 1839 Enlisted as a Private in Co. D, 25th Battalion Va Infantry. He srvice in Co. A, 20th VA Battn Heavy Artillery. Paroled POW remaining in Richmond. On May 11, 1865 Oath Allegiance administered to paroled prisoners.

  Pvt. Varland Hamilton b. May 1837 in Nelson Co, VA. Enlisted on May 1, 1861 at Massie Mill. On May 20, 1861 mustered in at Charlottesville into the Nelson Grays Co. G, 19th Va Infantry age of 24 years old. On June 1862 promoted to 2nd Corporal. On June 27, 1862 he was wounded in the battle of Gaines' Mill

  Pvt. Robert L. Hamilton b. 1843 Enlisted on March 10, 1862 at Massie Mill, va into the Rives' Nelson Artillery. On August 10, 1862 he died of typhold fever at Camp Stuart near Chaffins Bluff. Appears on register of claims of deceased John Hambleton (father) filed on Feb 7, 1863 due $59.55. Letter from father requesting son's due sent from Faber Mills P.O. Nelson Co, Va.

  Pvt. John E. Hamilton b. 1845 Enlisted on March 10, 1862 at Massie Mill, va into the Rives' Nelson Artillery. Present on all subsequent musters.

  Pvt. Edward Franklin Hudson b. on May 7, 1843. Enlisted on Mar 10, 1862 at Massie Mill, VA into the Rives' Nelson Artillery. On May 16, 1864 Slight shoulder wound at the battle of Drewry's Bluff, VA. On Oct 3, 1906 he died.

  Pvt. Peter Larkin Hudson Peter Larkin Hudson b. on Feb 3, 1844 Enlisted on Aug 24, 1861 at Carnifex Ferry, Nicholas Co, WV as a Private into Co. B, 8th Va Cavalry. On May 13, 1862 Re-enlist. Sick furlough Nelson Co, VA. Sept 17, 1864 to Oct 1, 1864 AWOL. On Mar 3, 1865 hospitalized with tumor on the groin in Farmville, VA. Transferred from company B to company D. On Feb 5, 1917 he died.

  Pvt. Albert W. Long b. 1838 Enlisted on Apr 29, 1861 at Buffalo Springs, VA into Amherst Rifle Grays Co. I, 19th Va Infantry. In July - Aug and through Oct 1861 Absent, sick. In Dec 1861 Returned. On Jun 30, 1862 Wounded at Darbytown Road, VA. In Aug 1862 Returned last date on roll.

( F )   Pvt. Charles O'Neal b. in Feb 1831 in Meadow Creek, Montgomery,Va Enlisted on Sept 10, 1861 at Christianburg, VA into Capt. James Craig Taylor's Co. Co. C, 54th Va Infantry. Wounded at Georgetown, SC. On June 19, 1863 POW at Lenoir Station, TN. On June 20, 1863 Exchanged.

( F )   Corporal. Daniel Wesley Williams b. on Nov 12, 1833 Enlisted on April 17, 1861 as a Corporal into Montgomery Fencibles Co. G, 4th Va Infantry. On April 22, 1862 Priv "Reduced to ranks". On May 12, 1864 POW at Spotsylvania Court House, Va. On May 15, 1864 Confined at Elmira, NY. On March 10, 1865 Exchanged.

( F )   Pvt. Thomas Abijah Whitt b. April 10, 1832 Enlisted on March 1, 1862(?), at Newberry, VA when he was 29 years old. into Capt. William W. Bentley's Co. Co. E, 24th Va Infantry. On Oct 27, 1862 hospitalized. On Oct 31, 1862 hospitalized at Richmond, Va. He participated in the Seven Days battles. ( Alias Abijah Whitt)

  Pvt. Littleberry Grant b. in 1819 in VA. Enlisted on Aug 15, 1861 at Millner's Store, VA into Co. F, 58th VA Infantry at the age of 42 years old. On Aug 18, 1862-Feb 28, 1863 AOL. On Feb 29, 1864 he was discharged. He was described as 6' 1.0", dark complexion, blue eyes, light hair.

  Pvt. James Preston Hambleton b. on May 4, 1827 in Amherst Co, VA. 5'5" dk. complex, dk. hair and blue eyes enlisted in the Amherst Rifle Grays Co. I, 19th Va Infantry on March 29, 1861 at Buffalo Springs at the age of 31. On July 29, 1862 present until discharged not subject to conscription law. On Jan 20, 1863 reenlisted at Buffalo Springs detailed as butcher. On July 8, 1864 present on last roll.

  Pvt. Peter Nicholson Johnson b. in 1835 Enlisted on Mar 22, 1862 at Porter's Precinct in Gantt's Company as a Private into Co. B, 15th Va Cavalry. On Aug 9, 1862 MR.

  Pvt. Benjamin D. Johnson b. on May 11, 1824 Enlisted on Mar 15, 1862 as a Private into Co. K, 41th Va Infantry. On Apr 11, 1862 Returned. On May 15, 1862 Detailed drilled at fairground. On Aug 5, 1862 He deserted at Falling Creek, VA.

  1st Lieut. Robert E. Lee, Jr b. on October 27, 1843 Enlisted on March 28, 1862 at Camp Buchanan, Va into "1st" Co. Rockbridge VA Light Artillery at the age of 18 years old. He was assigned General William H. F. Lee (as Aide-de-Camp). On Nov 13, 1862 Promoted to 1st Lieut of Cavalry and he was discharged for promotion. He was promoted to Capt. In the fall of 1864 he was Wounded Below Richmond. On May 12, 1864 Wounded in his body at Spotsylvania Court House, Va. On April 9, 1865 Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Va. On Oct 19, 1914 he died in Upperville, Va. Buried in the Lee Mausoleum, W&LU, Lexington, Va.

  Pvt. Voltaire Jones Camden b. in 1835. Enlisted as a Private into Co. I, 49th VA Inf. On Dec 27, 1907 he died. Buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, VA.

  Pvt. Andrew Baxter Campbell b. in 1841 Enlisted on May 29, 1861 at Greenville. On June 30, 1861 he was mustered in at Camp Stephens into the Augusta Grays Co. E, 5th Va Infantry. On May 5, 1864 he was seriously wounded in the chest at the battle of the Wilderness.

  Pvt. B. B. Campbell b. in 1847 Enlisted on April 28, 1864 at Fredericksburg VA into the Chesapeake Cavalry Co. I, 5th Va Cavalry. He was absent on horse detail on April 20, 1864

  Pvt. Marcellus Campbell Enlisted on March 15, 1862 at Amherst Courthouse in the Amherst Rifle Grays Co. I,19th Va Infantry. On Aug 30, 1862 he was wounded in the battle of Second Manassas.

  Pvt. Thomas G. Campbell b. in September 1840 Enlisted on Aug 31, 1861 at Nelson County, Va into Rives' Amherst-Nelson Light Artillery. Hospitalized Charlottesville, Va. On May 10 1863 Transferred to General Hospl, Lynchburg, Va. On June 30 1863 Sick at home. On Oct 1, 1863 Absent through this date. On Amherst County pension list.

  Pvt. William Daniel Campbell b. 1843 Enlisted on March 13, 1863 at Amherst Courthouse into the Amherst Rifle Grays Co. I, 19th Va Infantry. He was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg.

  Pvt. William Harry Campbell b. in 1830 in Amherst Co., Va. Enlisted on April 29, 1861 at Buffalo Springs, Va as a Private.On May 29,1861 he was mustered into the Amherst Rifle Grays Co. I, 19th Va Infantry. On May 5, 1862 he was wounded at the Battle of Williamburg. In July 1895 he died.

  Maj. John Blair Harvie b. on Apr 24, 1836. CSA On May 22, 1913 he died.

  Corpl. Marcellus B. Harvey b. Abt. 1843 Enlisted on April 15, 1861 in Amherst Court House, Va into Co. H, 19th Va Infantry at the age of 19 years old. On July 21, 1861 He was wounded in his Hand at Manassas, Va. On April 1, 1864 Promoted to Color Corpl. In Aug 1864 present through last roll. On August 08, 1877 he died in Amherst Co, Va.

  2nd Lieu. Hope William Massie b. on May 16, 1843 in Nelson Co, VA. Enlisted on Aug 31, 1861 in Nelson Co, VA into the Rives' Nelson Artillery at the age of 18 years old. On Oct 19, 1861 promoted to 2nd Lieu. On Dec 22, 1861 Left at Brooke Station reported himself too sick to accompany Battery on march. Fill the slot left by the promotion of Lt Boyd. On Oct 25, 1862 resigned. Subsequently served in the 2nd VA Cavalry. Post War Miller, Tyro, Nelson Co, VA. On Dec 10, 1892 he died.

  Pvt. Albert L. Stevens b. in 1837 Enlisted on May 1, 1861 at Massie Mill into the Nelson Grays Co. G, 19th Va Infantry. On March 4, 1862 through June 1863 Abesent Sick. On July 3, 1863 POW Gettysburg.

  Sgt. Charles Henry Stevens b. on May 15, 1835 Enlisted on Sept 1, 1861 at Camp Mitchell, Nelson co, Va into Co. K, 49th Va Infantry for 1 year. Present through April 1862. On May 28, 1862 hired as a substitute. Later service in the Chesapeake Cavalry Co. I, 5th Va Cavalry. On Feb 20, 1864 Conscripted and Transferred at Camp Lee, Richmond, VA. On April 30, 1864 On Rolls. "Member of a consolidated regiment".

  Pvt. George Seaton Stevens b. on January 04, 1831 He Served in Co. E, 1st Va Artillery and also Served in Co. D, 10th Batt'n Va Heavy Artillery.

  Pvt. John James Loving Stevens b. on May 26, 1820 Enlisted on July 1, 1861 at Nelson Courthouse into the Nelson Volunteers Co. E, 51st Va Infantry. On Sept 15, 1864 he was hospitalized for chronic bronchitis at Charlottesville, Va.

  Pvt. Samuel Cole Stevens b. on June 19, 1823 Enlisted on April 19, 1861 at Petersburg in the 12th Va Infantry as 1st lieutenant. On June 18, 1861 he was appointed acting quarter master of the regiment.

  2nd Sgt. William Cary Stevens b. on May 05, 1828 Enlisted on Sept 9, 1861 at Camp Mitchell, Nelson co, Va into Co. K, 49th Va Infantry for 1 year. Present through Dec 1861. Absent Sick Feb 1862 through April 1862. In May 1862 through June 1862 present. On Oct 26, 1863 re-enlisted and received $50 bonus. In Nov 1863 and Dec 1863 reduced to ranks present. On May 13, 1864 wounded at Spotsylvania CH in Va. Never returned to actived duty.

  Pvt. James C. Snider b. in 1842 Enlisted on July 16, 1861 as a Private into Co. L, 4th Va Infantry. On Oct 15, 1861 Detailed to make road. On Dec 13, 1862 Wounded in his left arm at Fredericksburg, Va. On Sept 4, 1863 He deserted at Montgomery Springs, VA Hospl.

  Sgt. Taliaferro Thompson b. on May 05, 1833. Enlisted on March 2, 1862 as a Private into Co. I, 49th Va Infantry. until captured at Seven Pines and taken to Fort Delaware where he was exchanged Aug. 1, 1862. He was again made prisoner near Winchester July 20, 1864, and taken to Camp Chase, Ohio whence he was paroled March 2, 1865. Among the battles in which he took part were Williamsburg, Seven Pines, first and second Fredericksburg, the battles of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Courthouse and Cold Harbor.

  Pvt. William Harrison Thompson b. on Aug 15, 1841 in VA. Enlisted on May 30, 1861 at Buffalo Springs, VA into the Amherst Rifle Grays Co. I, 19th Va Infantry at the age of 20 years old. He was wounded three times. On July 3, 1863 He was wounded in hip by a minnie ball at the battle of Gettysburg which he carried for the rest of his life. On July 4, 1863 Absent Wounded. On Feb 15, 1864 Returned. On Mar 31, 1911 he died in Amherst Co, VA.



  Pvt. Alexander H. Taliaferro Enlisted on May 27, 1861 at Alleghany County, NC into Co. F, 22nd NC Infantry at the age of 22 years old. On May 31, 1862 Wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines. On May 3, 1863 Wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville. On May 30, 1863 Absent Wounded and on Sept 7, 1864 AWOL.

  Pvt. Andrew Toliver* Enlisted on May 3, 1862 at Alleghany County into Co. I, 61st NC Infantry at the age of 23 years old. On Oct 15, 1862 He was Sick. On April 30, 1863 Returned. On July 13, 1863 Hospitalized in Charleston, SC.

  Pvt. Calloway J. Toliver* Enlisted on May 27, 1861 into Co. F, 22nd NC Infantry at the age of 27 years old. On Sept 20, 1862 he was KIA at Shepherdstown, WVa.

  Sergeant. Calvin J. Toliver* Enlisted on May 27, 1861 into Co. F, 22nd NC Infantry at the age of 29 years old. On July 15, 1862 AWOL and on Oct 15, 1862 Absent WIA. On July 1, 1863 returned to duty and he was promoted to Corp and before Oct 31, 1864 promoted to Sgt.

  Music. Eilbeck Hunter Taliaferro* Enlisted on April 29, 1861 into the Stafford Rangers Co. A, 9th VA Cavalry at the age of 17 years old. On Oct 16, 1861 Discharged for being a minor.

  Pvt. Edwin Taliaferro* b.1835 Enlisted on July 10, 1861 as a Adjutant and He was Commissioned into Field and Staff of the 32nd VA Infantry.

  Pvt. Gawin Corbin Taliaferro Enlisted on May 25, 1861 at Westmoreland, VA into the Lee's Light Horse Co. C, 9th Va Cavalry as Adjutant. he was wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg December 11, 1862 his thigh was shattered, and was left on the field, and fell into the hands of the enemy.

  Pvt. Granville H. Toliver Enlisted on May 27, 1861 at "B Station" into Co. F, 22nd NC Infantry at the age of 21 years old. On 10/1862 he was Absent WIA. On Dec 2, 1862 He was promoted to Sergt. On May 3, 1863 he was killed at the battle of Chancellorsville, VA.

  Pvt. Hay Buckner Taliaferro Enlisted on May 27, 1861 at Camp Pickens into the Alexandria Riflemen Co. A, 17th VA Infantry at the age of 27 years old. On April 11, 1864 promoted Capt (As of Commissary Dept). On Aug 11, 1863 promoted Asst Commissary (Corse's brgd).

  Pvt. Jesse B. Toliver Enlisted on May 3, 1862 at Alleghany County into Co. I, 61st NC Infantry at the age of 32 years old. On June 15, 1862 Absent Without Leave. On Feb 29, 1864 Returned. On March 15, 1864 He was under arrest and on Nov 15, 1864 listed as a deserter.

  Corporal. Melvin B. Taliaferro Enlisted on May 27, 1861 at Alleghany County into Co. F, 22nd NC Infantry at the age of 25 years old. On July 15, 1862 AWOL. On Oct 31, 1864 was promoted to Corpl and on April 2, 1865 POW at Hatcher's Run.

  Pvt. William R. Taliaferro b. in 1840 Enlisted on April 17, 1861 at Orange Courthouse, Va into the Montpelier Guard Co. A, 13th Va Infantry. On May 15, 1862 absent sick. On June 15, 1862 Returned.
